What we did
Digging Through English Sources
Unilever needed French product pages. The catch? Most information didn't exist in French. We spent weeks digging through their English intranet, pulling technical specs from databases, finding regulatory data scattered across different systems. A single Magnum ice cream page meant hunting down ingredients in one database, usage instructions in another file, brand messaging from their 200-page guideline. Then writing French descriptions from scratch for 600 products across Magnum, Dove, Knorr, OMO, Signal, Lipton, Carte d'Or.
This wasn't translation. French consumers searching "glace premium" need different content than Americans searching "premium ice cream". We researched French keywords, analyzed local competitors, wrote descriptions that would actually rank in France and Morocco. Over 12 months, those pages went from 540,000 to 900,000 impressions. The content worked because we built it for French search behavior, not just converted English text.
Building the Excel Database
600 pages need structure. We built Excel files with everything: product names, short descriptions for search snippets, long descriptions targeting French keywords, ingredient lists, allergen warnings, usage instructions, regulatory compliance data. One template, 600 products. When Unilever launches a new Dove variant, their team plugs it into the same Excel structure.
Started with 89 pages ranking first page on Google. Ended with 247. The consistent Excel structure helped their pages rank. More importantly, it's scalable - they can keep using it without us.
Recreating Product Cartouches
Unilever uses standardized product cartouches worldwide. Same format everywhere: product visual, logo, product name, side text, format. We searched their intranet and the web for product visuals, then recreated 600+ cartouches in Photoshop following their exact global standard. Dark Chocolate, Strawberry Cheesecake, all Magnum flavors, Dove variants, Knorr products. Same layout for every brand, French text adapting "Scooping", "5.5L", product names.
The Excel files contained everything else: SEO descriptions, ingredient lists, usage instructions, compliance data. The cartouches were the visual layer. Annual clicks grew from 25,000 to 48,000 because users found professional Unilever-standard visuals combined with proper French product information.
Zero-Error Regulatory Compliance
Product pages on institutional sites are legal documents. French and Moroccan regulations don't forgive mistakes on ingredient disclosure or allergen warnings. Unilever gave us access to their internal systems to cross-reference every chemical compound, every regulatory requirement. We built a validation system: every ingredient list checked against their master database, every allergen warning verified for both markets, every product claim validated.
Result: 600+ pages deployed on their institutional sites. Zero regulatory issues. No violations. No forced corrections. The validation framework protects every future product they launch in France and Morocco.
