What we did
Research & Content Creation from English Sources
Unilever’s institutional e-commerce sites needed 600+ French product pages, but the information didn’t exist in French. We had to dig through English documentation: technical specifications buried in Unilever’s intranet, chemical composition data from English databases, usage instructions written for English-speaking markets, regulatory information that existed only in English. Then create French product content from scratch across 18 categories: Magnum ice cream, OMO laundry detergents, Dove personal care, Knorr seasonings, Signal toothpaste, Lipton teas, Carte d’Or desserts. This wasn’t translation work. This was research and content creation optimized for SEO in French-speaking markets.
The real challenge was building French product pages when source materials were scattered across English documentation. A Magnum product required pulling ingredients from one English database, usage instructions from another document, brand messaging from the 200-page English guideline, and regulatory specs from yet another source. Then synthesizing that into SEO-optimized French product descriptions that would rank for local search queries. French consumers searching for “glace premium” need different content than what exists in English markets. We researched long-tail keywords specific to France and Morocco, analyzed competitor product pages in French, structured content to rank for French product searches.
Due to confidentiality agreements, we can only share aggregated performance data measured over 12 months following deployment. These product pages generated growth from 540,000 to 900,000 annual impressions across French-speaking institutional e-commerce sites, representing 68% growth in organic search visibility. The French content we created from English sources worked because it was optimized for French search behavior, not just translated. Individual page metrics and specific search queries remain confidential under our agreement with Unilever.
SEO-Optimized Database Architecture
Creating 600 SEO-optimized pages is one thing. Making them scalable and maintainable is another. We built structured Excel templates designed specifically for e-commerce SEO. Every product sheet followed the same SEO-optimized structure: product names with keyword variations for different search contexts, short descriptions optimized for meta descriptions and rich snippets, long descriptions targeting long-tail keywords, complete ingredient composition formatted for structured data, usage instructions answering common user queries, SEO metadata fields for titles and descriptions, regulatory compliance checkboxes. The templates weren’t just for our production, they became the delivery itself, handed over to Unilever’s teams as a complete SEO content management framework.
This wasn’t just organizing data. We designed the system so Unilever’s teams could create new SEO-optimized product pages themselves after delivery. When they launch a new Dove product variant or update a Signal toothpaste formula, they can use the same template structure that’s proven to rank. The Excel database became a living SEO content production system that scales with their catalog. We also delivered SEO guidelines specifically for France and Morocco markets, documenting keyword research methodology, content optimization patterns, and search intent analysis that future content creators can replicate.
The SEO structure paid off in rankings. From 89 pages ranking on Google’s first page, we grew to 247 pages across the two markets. That’s 177% growth in first-page visibility. The consistent SEO-optimized data structure helped search engines understand, index, and rank the content effectively across all 18 product categories. The scalable template system we delivered means this SEO foundation continues working for new products as they’re added to the e-commerce catalog.
Product Information Cartouches
Unilever provided standardized product visuals – the Carte d’Or ice cream pots, Magnum packaging, Dove bottles. But institutional e-commerce pages needed complete product information cartouches presenting these products with descriptions, specifications, and usage instructions. We created 600+ product cartouches under Photoshop, following Unilever’s 200-page brand guideline. Each cartouche required matching brand colors precisely, respecting typography hierarchies, positioning product visuals according to guidelines, integrating French SEO-optimized descriptions, formatting ingredient lists for e-commerce compliance, structuring usage instructions readably.
The Photoshop work wasn’t just slapping text on images. Each brand had specific cartouche requirements in the guideline. Magnum cartouches needed premium aesthetic with specific gold color codes. Dove cartouches required clean, minimalist layouts with exact blue specifications. Knorr demanded appetite-appeal food photography integration. OMO needed practical, results-focused presentation. Every cartouche was built from scratch under Photoshop, respecting each brand’s visual identity while maintaining consistent e-commerce information architecture across all 18 product categories. The cartouche templates we delivered allow Unilever’s teams to create new product presentations following the same visual standards.
These professional product cartouches contributed directly to engagement. Annual clicks grew from 25,000 to 48,000 across French-speaking institutional sites, representing 92% growth. Users found professional-quality product presentations that matched Unilever’s global brand standards. The cartouches we created under Photoshop provided both visual credibility and information accessibility. French consumers could see premium product presentation combined with the specific French-language information they needed. The Photoshop template system we delivered ensures this visual quality continues for new products.
E-commerce Regulatory Compliance
E-commerce product pages aren’t just marketing. They’re legal documents. French and Moroccan e-commerce regulations require specific ingredient disclosure formats, allergen warnings, and chemical composition details on product pages. Get it wrong and you’re looking at regulatory penalties, forced content takedowns, or e-commerce platform suspensions. Unilever granted us direct access to their internal systems so we could cross-reference every chemical compound, every allergen declaration, every regulatory requirement. We built a regulatory compliance framework specifically for e-commerce that became part of our final deliverables, documenting validation procedures that Unilever’s teams can apply to future product launches on their institutional platforms.
We implemented a zero-error tolerance policy across all 600+ e-commerce product pages. Every single product sheet went through systematic validation before deployment. Ingredient lists were checked against Unilever’s master database. Allergen warnings were verified for both French and Moroccan e-commerce requirements. Usage instructions were reviewed for safety compliance. Product claims were validated against supporting documentation. Not one page went live without passing this quality checkpoint. The validation framework we delivered ensures future e-commerce content maintains the same compliance standards, protecting them from regulatory issues as they scale their online catalog.
The result: zero regulatory issues across 600+ product pages deployed on institutional e-commerce sites serving France and Morocco. No compliance violations. No forced corrections. No e-commerce platform penalties. When you’re operating at Unilever’s scale, regulatory precision isn’t optional. It’s the foundation everything else is built on. Our systematic approach ensured that every Dove soap description, every Knorr seasoning ingredient list, every Signal toothpaste formulation met local e-commerce legal requirements from day one. The regulatory compliance framework we delivered protects them for every product they’ll launch on these platforms going forward.
